Dramaturg, writer, teacher and researcher
My Background
Hi, my name is Giselle!
I’m a freelance dramaturg, writer, teacher and researcher specialising in contemporary Filipino theatre and performance in the Philippines and in diaspora. I am particularly interested in Philippine cultures and stories in transnational contexts, and new plays from various contexts, structures and perspectives.
I have a PhD in Drama from the University of Exeter where I developed a dramaturgical method for interpreting performance through place and walking.
My research interests are new dramaturgies, translation, adaptation, walking, city life, rural life, phenomenology, new play development, devising and creative methodologies for response and criticism.
I believe that developing new work is a desire for intimacy in a world torn apart by borders and barriers. The birth of a new story brings the hope of breaking down the walls the divide us.
